Bayview Essay Contest-Selected Entries!
A new Bayview Branch Library is currently under construction at the corner of 3rd Street and Revere and earlier in 2012, Friends’ Bayview Branch Library Campaign Committee hosted an essay contest, asking:
“How can the new Bayview Branch Library help to build a stronger Bayview community?”
Students who live in the area, or have a strong connection to the community were encouraged to submit their work for a chance to win up to $250 and have their essay published in a local newspaper. Presented in partnership with the San Francisco Public Library and the Bayview Koshland Fellows, the essays were divided into ago categories and judged by Bayview community supporters Derek Toliver, Theodore Ellington, Cynthia Scott, and Dr. Betty McGee.
Friends received many excellent submissions all echoing the same sentiment—that the Bayview community loves its Branch Library. We at The Readers Review are pleased to publish the selected essays of students. Check back as we publish works written by students in Elementary School, Middle School and College about how a new library can build a stronger community!
