The New Bayview Library: A land of Opportunity
Picture thirteen year-old John at the old Bayview library. Everyday, he came to the library because he felt he had nowhere else to go. He tried to get on the computers to do some homework and maybe even play some games. Other days he wandered around looking for something to read but nothing caught his attention. Tired of not getting his turn on the computers and not finding much else, he stopped going to the library.
Now, everyday he’s on 3rd street with nothing to do. He’s probably going to find trouble. For various reasons, I believe having a new library will help build a strong community. Some people may disagree because they libraries are boring and have no affect on the surrounding neighborhood. However, I think having a new library will encourage more people to go to the library, it will help students improve their grades, and futures, and it will have more resources and programs to help more people.
First, the new library will encourage more people to go the library. More people will come to the library than when it first opened. It won’t be crowded for people to do homework or read. Also, I think that it will have more books and computers to use. So people won’t fight about getting what they need. This will also let kids to go on computers and stay off 3rd street. The new library will be a better place to hang out than being out on the streets.
Secondly, the improved library will help students improve their grades and futures. Some kids still go to the library to stay out of trouble. It’s a quiet place to do homework for students like me. For example, the librarians helped me with my science homework and I was the first to turn it in. So, that is one reason I love going to the library. Ever since that time I went to the library and they helped me get better grades, I have been continuing to go to the library. My parents were so proud when I finally made the honor roll that they bought me stuff. If other kids do that they will have a good education and have a career instead of being a gang banger or a drug dealer. Therefore, having a new library will help more students improve their grades which will make their parents so happy and proud.
Third, the improved library will have more resources and programs to help more people. Many people depend on the library for things they need. In fact, many adults who don’t have computers go to the library to use them. Many can’t afford the cost of the price of internet. For example, my uncle uses the library to check his email and other activities because he can’t afford a computer. Also, people who don’t have jobs come to the library to look for jobs and fill out applications. They also can improve learning and reading, and spend quiet time there. A new Bayview Library will be a place where all members of our community will be able to get the resources and books that allow for more opportunities.
Consequently, I believe having a new library will help build a stronger community because having a new and improved library will encourage more people to go to the library, it will help students improve their grades and futures, and it will have more resources and programs to help more people. In order to solve this situation, I suggest you should ask kids what kind of books they would like to read and include more computers. The effect would be more kids will feel happier to, know that they can find a copy of the latest Simpson’s comic book or they could easily get on a computer.
The community around 3rd street and Revere will be stronger if a new library is build. It will provide a safe place of learning for me, my family, and neighbors. For these reasons, I conclude that a new library be build so that more people can have the positive experience that I had with a friendly librarian that helped me do my homework and start to do better in school, and therefore have a better future.
